
Dr. Pamela Leonard holds a Ph.D in Social Anthropology from the University of Cambridge, and is former adjunct professor at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Her research, including fieldwork in rural Sichuan (1991-1993) in collaboration with Heifer Project International’s livestock development program, focuses on social and economic change in the Chinese countryside as it relates to ecological issues. From 2014 to 2017 she helped lead the Sidwell Friends School China Fieldwork Semester in Yunnan where high students apprenticed with local craft masters, studied local ecology, and completed interdisciplinary projects. In 2017 she became a co-founder of the China Folk House Retreat, where she currently curates the gardens and leads student programs at CFHR and in Yunnan.
